Physicians Formula Butter Eyeshadow and Butter Lip Cream Review and Swatches
Physicians Formula is back at it again with an extension of their SUPER popular Butter Collection! They just launched TWELVE new Butter Lip Creams and two new Butter eyeshadow palettes. I’ve got loads of opinions on all of them, plus swatches so you can see how the colors look on skin. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Okay, let’s talk about the Butter Eyeshadow palettes first. First of all, these are the biggest eyeshadow palettes that I’ve seen from Physicians Formula. Usually drugstore brands tend to stick to smaller palettes, but these are more like something you’d see in a Sephora or the prestige side of Ulta. Each one has twelve shades – a mix of mattes, shimmers and foils. And the price is right at just $16.95 each (compared to prestige palettes that are often in the $40-60 range).
Right off the bat I have to tell you that I was shocked when I tried these on, and the shadow DID NOT CREASE. I have very oily, hooded eyes and everything creases on me. I have tried so many eyeshadows, and they all crease eventually. So, I was shocked. Shocked I tell you! I wore them over a thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion (like I do with all eyeshadows) and they lasted all day. Whaaaaaaat!
The eyeshadow formula is loaded with moisturizing tucuma, cupuaçu and murumuru butters, plus conditioning essential fatty acids. They have that tropical scent like the original Butter Bronzer, and most of the shades are buttery in texture (especially the foils).
Pictured above are swatches of the Tropical Days Butter Eyeshadow palette (without primer). I will say that many of the colors are lighter on the skin and not as dark as they look in the pan. I applied these swatches with a finger, and that’s how you’ll get the boldest application (with any eyeshadow). It did seem that they were buildable, and patting them on gave me the most coverage and best pigmentation. I’m not so much into reds or blues, but I know those are trendy shades right now. The rest of the colors in the palette are great for me. That dark purple actually turned out to be more of a mauve and I much prefer that for everyday use. The shimmers are fantastic.
The Sultry Nights Butter Eyeshadow palette has a mix of warm and cool tones – mattes, shimmers and foils. The colors were amazingly crease-proof for me. Again, some of the shades look quite different on my skin (than in the pan). The deep blue is more of a shimmery, smoky grey-blue. The foil that looks almost black is more of an antique gold shade. I hope my swatches are helpful. The mattes and light shimmers were pretty true to what you see in the palette. This is not good or bad – just depends on what you’re into. This is why beauty bloggers like me exist – to show you how makeup will look so you can make an informed purchase!
The new Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Creams are a nice treat for the winter. They are super moisturizing – and similar to tinted lip balms but with more shade options than you’d normally see. Some of the colors have more pigment than your typical tinted lip balm too. This launch almost seems like something you’d normally see in the summer, but actually, it’s the winter when our lips get chapped and dry. If you put on long-wear liquid lipstick on top of chapped lips, it just looks gross. These moisturizing lip colors are your best friends when that happens! There are twelve shades and they are only $7.95 each.
Shades (L-R Row 1): Soaking Up the Sun, Pinkini, Brazilian Nut, Rio de Janeiro, Flamingo Pink, Mauvin to Brazil
Shades (L-R Row 2): Nights in Rio, Acai Berry, Carnival, Guava Mama, Samba, Brazilian Sunset
I swatched all twelve shades above. You can see immediately how moisturizing and yummy they are! They have the same moisturizing tucuma, cupuaçu and murumuru butters, plus essential fatty acids, that are in the other Butter products, but with the added benefit of SPF 15 to protect your lips from the elements. They are hypoallergenic, paraben-free, gluten-free, and of course, cruelty free. I recommend picking up one to see if you like the formula as much as I do. If so, they are reasonably priced ($7.95 each), so pick up a few to keep in your purse!
