My Wedding Makeup, Hair and Skincare Details
As you guys probably already know, I got married last month at a castle in Scotland! It was a beautiful ceremony, and you can read the details about the wedding here. I wanted to give you the details on my wedding makeup, hair and skincare.
Skin
Leading up to the wedding, I had been treating my melasma (dark splotches that are triggered by hormones, heat and light) with Piqo4 laser treatments at Moy, Fincher and Chipps in Beverly Hills. Dr. Jennifer Herrmann is amazing. She understands how hard melasma is to treat and she understands sensitive skin like mine. She has been using a low level blast of Piqo4 laser every week or every other week on my spots. The treatment takes about 10 minutes, but I go in a bit earlier to get numbing cream. I could probably tolerate it without the numbing cream, but I’m a baby and with it, I don’t feel much of anything! The treatments take a long time, because melasma is notoriously hard to treat, but I’m seeing incredible results. One spot is almost 100% gone, but the other side still has some pigment. Now that the wedding is over, I’m going to keep on treating the spots that are still there. And I’m wearing SPF religiously so they don’t come back!
I also had some incredible facials leading up to the wedding at Verabella Skin Therapy Spa (also in Beverly Hills). They really took care of my skin, and were able to customize my treatments depending on how close we were to the wedding. If you go for a Verabella facial before a big event, definitely get the micro-current lift! It temporarily lifts and tightens, and makes you look like you had Botox (in a GOOD way)!
For skincare products, I stuck with my tried and true Emme Diane products leading up to the wedding. You can read about my experience with Emme Diane here. I followed a strict, no dairy, soy, seaweed or peanuts protocol leading up to the wedding to avoid breakouts (and have been eating all kinds of crap since the honeymoon haha!). I decanted the Emme Diane products and brought them in travel-sized containers. I used products that would not clog my pores: Foaming Cleanser, Dew Drops Hydrating Serum, Hydraluxe Cream, Bright Eyed Eye Serum, and Tinted Mineral SPF. What I used may be different from what you should use. If you contact Emme, tell her Jen from My Beauty Bunny sent you for a free email consultation (worldwide). She’ll help you figure out exactly which products will work for your skin. Use my Emme Diane coupon code Bunny10 if you want to try it out and save on your order.
Makeup
First of all, I was crazy sick with a nasty cold the day of the wedding! It was the worst timing – I had been fighting it off until the night before (right after the rehearsal dinner). Luckily, I had a great hair and makeup team – AMM Team. They regularly fly all over the world to do weddings and high-fashion shoots, so I knew I was in good hands.
We decided to change from my original plan of pink halo eyes, minimal black liner, pink blush, nude lip and lots of lashes. We kept the lashes (I wear extensions and I got extra dramatic ones for the wedding). But we switched everything over to fairytale queen GLAM – dark red metallic lip, moderately smoky eye and fairly heavy contour/blush.
I don’t have a lot of photos from the wedding yet, and I’ll share more when I get them, but for now, here are a few to give you an idea. Donna from AMM used a lot of her own makeup, but I also had her use some things that I brought with me.
Lipstick – Too Faced Matte-tallic liquid lipstick “Bitch I’m Too Faced” – HOLY GRAIL of reds! It’s just stunning and I’m obsessed with it. I’ve been wearing it quite a bit lately. Gregg loves it on me too!
Blush and Contour – Kevyn Aucoin Contour Book Volume 3 – It’s really hard for me to find a contour that doesn’t look yellow or orange on my light olive skin tone. “Sculpting Light” is a really good shade for me on a daily basis, and although “Sculpting Medium” has more red in it, I use it when I want to deepen the contour and create more drama. The Neo-Bronzer in “Venice” has a spectrum of shades, that can be used as blush or bronzer, but I lean more toward the lighter side for blush. The highlighters are a bit gold for me, so I use them for a more natural look. If I want to ramp it up, I need something with more white in it. Overall, I really love this palette and it was worth the (somewhat hefty) price tag. FYI – if you are only interested in the contour shade, you can buy that separately.
Eyeshadow – Too Faced Natural Love palette – I think this palette is TOTALLY under-rated. There are thirty great earth tones, pinks and neutrals here that are extremely wearable. There’s also a nice mix of mattes and shimmers here.
Eyeliner – The only eyeliner that will not smudge or move on my oily, hooded lids is by Tarte. I have used several of their pen liners and they are seriously the only ones that stay!
Nails – Burgundy gels fit for a gothic queen by Rose VI Nail Bar. They lasted for 3 weeks without chipping – I was so impressed!
Hair
Before I left for the UK, I had my hair cut and colored by my hair guru, Patricia Lynn Laas. She cut in some long layers to give me more volume, and gave me a dark, ashy brown that I just love!
For the trial, I asked Anne Marie, of AMM Hair and Makeup Team, in Scotland, to put in hair extensions and did tighter curls, but I realized that’s just not me. So for the wedding, we did long, loose curls without extensions (and with a beautiful tiara by Cassandra Lynne Bridal). The night before, I washed and conditioned with Kevin Murphy Angel Wash and Angel Rinse (the only shampoo and conditioner I have been using lately for my fine hair). Then I spritzed in some Rahua Voluminous Spray, which is great for any hair type, seems to give my curls extra definition without being crunchy or hard, and also good as a refresher between washes. And finally I used my tried and true Paul Mitchell Ultimate Wave cream-gel to scrunch and define my curls (I can’t live without this stuff!). I tried some of the other Paul Mitchell hair styling products but I think Ultimate Wave will always be my all-time holy grail favorite! The day of the wedding, Anne Marie curled my hair with long, loose waves, fixed my tiara, and used just enough hair spray to keep it looking fresh throughout the evening. I loved the final result!
