Lexli Aloe Vera Based Cruelty Free Skincare for Acne and Anti-Aging
Hey bunnies! I’m excited to tell you about a new cruelty free, Leaping Bunny certified skincare brand that I discovered recently. It’s called Lexli and all of the products are based on the healing powers of pharmaceutical grade aloe vera.
Many skincare products have aloe as an ingredient, but Lexli uses organic, high grade, impurity-free aloe as a base. That’s an important distinction, because small amounts of aloe aren’t going to be very useful for your skin. You can see that aloe is the first ingredient in these products (skincare ingredient lists are ranked by order of concentration).
Lexli uses aloe that has been certified by the International Aloe Science Council (IASC). This means that the aloe has been properly harvested and processed to ensure the highest quality. Lexli says that this is very important because aloe’s active ingredients begin to decompose and lose their effectiveness soon after harvesting if not handled properly.
So what’s the big deal with aloe? Well it penetrates the skin easily, helps to stop inflammation, regenerates damaged skin cells (which is why people use it after a sunburn), and it even helps to control acne (it contains salicylic acid, saponin and barbaloin which kill acne bacteria).
Lexli has combined aloe vera with acne-fighting and anti-aging ingredients to create skincare regimens for all skin types. I’m focusing on the acne-busting and anti-aging products for this review since those are the two areas of concern for me!
Let’s start with Lexli’s Acne Cleanser. The formula is aloe-based, of course. They have also added salicylic acid, sulfur, witch hazel, niacinamide, Vitamin A and several other vitamins. It has a unique look and feel – it’s a slight orange-y color and it’s packaged in a glass jar. You take a nickel-sized amount, and you’ll notice right away that the consistency is thick. Once you rub it into your hands (and your face), you’ll see that it spreads easily and although it doesn’t foam up, it does create a lather. After using it my face felt very clean, pores smaller, and skin matte (no shine or oil). This is a wonderful cleanser for oily, acne-prone skin. If your skin is sensitive and/or dry (like mine) and also acne-prone, you may want to try Lexli’s Cleansing Lotion, or alternate between the two for best results.
The Acne Clarifying Lotion is my favorite product out of the bunch! It’s an aloe-based lotion with an impressive array of ingredients for acne/oil-control, skin renewal, hydration and inflammation. The highlights are: salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, zinc pyrithione, green tea, witch hazel, arnica, pomegranate extract, allantoin, chamomile, ginkgo biloba, Vitamin B5 and lavender oil. This is a really nice formula that doesn’t irritate my skin, and keeps me clear! I put it on and then wait about five minutes for it to absorb before I put on a moisturizer. I use it all over to prevent breakouts from forming, but if you have mild acne, you can also use this as a spot treatment. If your skin gets too dry, just use it every other day until you get used to it. My only complaint is that I wish they’d put it in a pump dispenser instead of a glass jar.
Lexli Daily Moisturizer for Oily Skin is a great moisturizing option for my oily babes! If your skin is very oily, or if you live in a very humid environment, you still need to give your face some hydration. This product is perfect because it leave your skin feeling very clean without any oil. Because of the aloe vera, it feels slightly heavy at first, but trust me – it dries completely. Your skin will drink it up and you’ll be left with a matte canvas – it wears well under makeup.
There were a couple of products I wanted to mention, even though I can’t use them because I’m allergic to Vitamin C. I think Vitamin C is such a great, powerful anti-aging ingredient, and I’m sad that I can’t use it. But that doesn’t mean you can’t! I tested these on my fiancé, Gregg, and his skin did really well with them. The A-Firm-Ative anti-aging peptide serum is a great wrinkle-fighting booster to use underneath your moisturizer. It has peptides, antioxidants, arnica, and hydrating ingredients, and is suitable for all skin types.
I tell just about everyone that they can benefit from alpha hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid (my favorite). Lexli’s AloeGlyC is a very powerful nighttime exfoliator. It contains aloe (of course!), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, green tea, allantoin and jojoba oil. This is a really nice blend of exfoliating and hydrating ingredients. If it’s a little strong for you, try mixing it with your moisturizer. I can’t use this one because of the Vitamin C (I’m allergic) but based on my results in testing it on Gregg, I’d recommend this one for anyone with dull skin, fine lines, acne scars or spots.
Always use sunscreen to prevent premature aging and skin cancer. But when you’re using active ingredients like AHAs, you REALLY have to use sunscreen religiously (or you could make lines and spots worse). Lexli has several broad spectrum SPF options. I tried the Sunscreen Spray, and I like it for daily, indoor use. It’s non-greasy and is water and sweat-resistant. But for outdoor use, I would suggest an SPF of 30 or higher. Try the Day Moisturizer with SPF 30 if you’re using active ingredients or if you’ll be outdoors for extended lengths of time.
Lexli products all have a fresh, gender-neutral scent. All of these products are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free and paraben free, and many are vegan. The Daily Moisturizer for Oily Skin and A-Firm-Ative contains silk amino acids and some products contain soluble collagen. All ingredients are listed on the website.
Overall, I’m really impressed with these cruelty free skincare products! The Acne Cleanser and Acne Clarifying Lotion are my absolute favorites, and I think you’ll love them too!
